Today, as the world marks World Mental Health Day 2026, ConnectMind Network joins individuals, communities, researchers, mental-health professionals and organisations around the world in recognising a powerful message: Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices. Real Change.
This year's campaign challenges us to think beyond awareness and ask an important question:
Are we simply listening to people's experiences, or are we allowing those experiences to influence meaningful change?
At ConnectMind Network, we believe that listening is important, but listening alone is not enough. Real progress requires learning, connection, collaboration and action.
From Being Heard to Making a Difference
People with lived experience of mental-health challenges bring valuable knowledge that cannot always be captured through research, professional training or clinical practice alone. Their experiences can help us better understand barriers to accessing support, gaps in services, stigma, inequalities and the everyday realities of living with mental-health difficulties.
However, meaningful involvement must go beyond inviting people to share their stories. It means ensuring that their perspectives are respected, valued and considered when decisions are made. It means involving people in designing services, developing research, evaluating interventions and identifying priorities for change.
The question is no longer simply, "Have we listened?" but "What will we do differently because we listened?"
Bringing Different Voices Together
Mental health is complex, and no single group has all the answers. People with lived experience bring personal understanding; mental-health professionals contribute clinical and practical expertise; researchers provide evidence and new insights; students contribute emerging perspectives and curiosity; volunteers and community organisations bring knowledge of local needs, relationships and challenges. When these different forms of knowledge come together respectfully, they create opportunities for shared learning, stronger partnerships and better-informed solutions.
This belief is central to the vision of ConnectMind Network. We aim to create an inclusive community where people interested in mental health can exchange knowledge, explore ideas and collaborate towards meaningful change.
Our Commitment: Listen, Learn, Connect, Collaborate and Act
At ConnectMind Network, five principles guide the community we are building.
Listen: Create opportunities for different voices, experiences and perspectives to be heard and respected.
Learn: Share research, resources, knowledge and experiences to strengthen our understanding of mental health.
Connect: Bring together individuals, professionals, researchers, students, volunteers and organisations who share an interest in mental health.
Collaborate: Encourage conversations, partnerships and opportunities to develop ideas together.
Act: Translate conversations, learning and collaboration into practical steps that can make a difference.
These principles remind us that meaningful change is a shared responsibility.
Beyond World Mental Health Day
World Mental Health Day is an important opportunity to raise awareness, challenge stigma and encourage conversations. However, mental health matters every day. The conversations we begin today should not end when 10 October is over. We need ongoing opportunities to listen, share knowledge, learn from one another and explore how our collective efforts can contribute to positive change. That is why ConnectMind Network is building a community that continues beyond awareness campaigns and commemorative events.
Join the ConnectMind Network Community
We invite everyone interested in mental health to become part of our growing community. Whether you have lived experience, work in mental-health services, conduct research, study, volunteer or simply want to learn and contribute, your perspective matters. Our Slack community provides a welcoming space for ongoing discussions, knowledge sharing, networking and collaboration. Participation does not require anyone to disclose personal or sensitive experiences. Listening, learning, asking questions and contributing ideas are all valuable ways to engage.
